these drought-tolerant gems
Pigface
A rambling succulent with fleshy
leaves and masses of daisy-like
blooms in shades of pink, purple,
red, yellow or orange in spring and
summer. Pigface prefers a spot in
full sun and is tolerant of light frost.
It is ideal for rockeries, retaining
walls, hanging baskets or as a
low-maintenance ground cover.
Kalanchoe
This small plant grows to only 30cm
and is a great easy-care choice for
pots or planted en masse in garden
beds. The scalloped leaves are
topped with clusters of bright pink,
red, orange, yellow or white flowers
for many months. It thrives in full
sun in tropical, subtropical and
warm, frost-free zones.
Jade plant
Clusters of star-shaped white
and pink flowers nearly smother
the bright green leaves of the jade
plant from late autumn through
winter. When not in bloom, the
tree-like habit of this medium-sized
succulent makes it a wonderful
feature plant. While shade
tolerant, it flowers best in full sun.
Aloe
A tough but beautiful group of
succulents with an open rosette
of pointed green or blue-green
leaves. The foliage is lined with
blunt spines, which give rise to
spikes of red, orange, yellow or
cream flowers. Aloe grows best in
full sun and well-drained soil.
